El Corredor Atlántico, anteriormente llamado Corredor Ferroviario de Mercancías Nº 4, incluye líneas ferroviarias existentes e itinerarios planeados entre Sines/Setúbal/Lisboa/Aveiro/Leixões - Algeciras/Madrid/Bilbao/Zaragoza - Bourdeaux/ La Rochelle / Nantes / Paris/Le Havre/ Strasbourg - Mannheim cruzando las fronteras internacionales de Vilar Formoso/Fuentes de Oñoro, Elvas/Badajoz, Irún/Hendaya y Metz-Woopie/stering-Wendel.

En enero de 2016, Alemania se unió a Portugal, España y Francia como socio de la AEIE | Corredor Atlántico con la extensión del Corredor a Mannheim a través de la frontera francesa / alemana en Forbach / Saarbrücken. Además, el Corredor Atlántico también se extendió hasta la frontera francesa / alemana de Estrasburgo. Como resultado, los primeros PaPs a Alemania estarán disponibles en el calendario 2017.

La misión principal del Corredor Atlántico es la gestión de la infraestructura existente, sin inversiones adicionales, a través de la gestión centralizada de la adjudicación de capacidad, gestión del tráfico y relación con los clientes.

Además, el Corredor Atlántico funciona como plataforma de coordinación entre Portugal, España, Francia y Alemania con respecto a las inversiones en infraestructura, superando barreras técnicas y operativas, promoviendo la interoperabilidad y, en definitiva, aumentando la competitividad del transporte ferroviario de mercancías
