In this event, in Brussels, the future of TEN—T was discussed with European leaders, in the event “20 Years of European TEN-T Coordinators”, on June 25th 2025, by DG-MOVE (Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport of the European Comission).
The event had as its main purpose to celebrate the 20 years since the creation of the European Transport Corridor Coordinators. During the afternoon, the main achievements and milestones in the development of TEN-T were highlighted, as well as the need for continuous collaboration and innovation in the building of a more connected, sustainable and resilient European Transport Network.
Hosted by the General Director of DG-MOVE, Magda Kopczyńska, the event started with the intervention of the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas.
The Minister of Transportation and Mobility of Spain, Óscar Puente Santiago, and the Secretary of State of Infrastructure of Poland, Arkadiusz Marchewka, integrated the first discussion panel, which concentrated on the opportunities and challenges in implementing the European Union transport policy and the impact of community funding in the transport infrastructure in both countries.
Several European Transport Corridor Coordinators, together with the Vice-President of the Transport and Tourism Committee of the European Parliament, took part in a second discussion panel, dedicated to the last 20 years of TEN-T governance, focusing on what has already been achieved, and the challenges that need to be addressed to resolved to actualise an effective Pan-European transport network. The several aspects about the path blazed with the sight of implementing a TEN-T network which not only promotes international travel and improves mobility in the European Community but also enables the process of constructing a more cohesive and integrated Europe.
This was also the moment for the formal appointment of the new European coordinators and the recognition of the work developed by the ones leaving. In the particular case of the European Transport Corridor of the Atlantic, to which the RFC Atlantic belongs to, Mr. François Bausch was designated as the new European Coordinator. His experience in linear infrastructure development and his commitment to railway development – at both a national and European level – make him an ideal champion to guide the implementation of the Atlantic Corridor.
This was also the opportunity to recognise the important work developed by Professor Carlo Secchi, the current European Coordinator for the Atlantic Corridor. Under his leadership, several impactful initiatives were fostered, which reenforced the spirit of European cooperation, such as the Technical Joint Workshop on International Passenger and Freight Traffic in the TEN-T, the Atlantic and Mediterranean European Transport Corridors Working Group for Climate Resilience and the Workshop for High-Speed Railway Construction Cost Lowering.
